What we offer

Our company opened in March 2019 as the Tokyo branch of Place Solutions Group, which was established by Stephen Davies, co-founder of Project for Public Spaces, a non-profit organization and authority on public space consulting in New York City.

 

Place Solutions Group Tokyo aims to apply the knowledge and practices gained in New York City regarding public spaces to the reorganization, revitalization, and management of public domains across Japan. We will carry out the following services:

(1) Research and consultation services related to community development

(2) Project promotion support services related to the planning, design, and operation of shared spaces

(3) All other businesses incidental or related to the foregoing items

 

“Devotion for a greater pleasant public space”

1) We survey and analyze the area together with stakeholders.

  • Characteristics survey and definition of public spaces

  • Survey of actual public space usage

  • Identification of stakeholders and interviews

  • Organization of issues

  • Precedent cases

2) We make recommendations and proposals for the area based on the survey and analysis.

  • Formulation of spatial planning and operation

  • Guidelines for placemaking

    • Traffic calming

      • Present measures to secure pedestrian pathways.

    • Open facilities

      • Present measures to provide diverse entrepreneurial opportunities for small-scale businesses.

    • Vending booth setup

      • Present measures enable diverse people to use them.

    • Community cultivation

      • Present measures contributing to relationship building with residents.

    • Contribution to the local community

      • Present measures provide social spaces for visitors and local workers.

3) Support establishment/promoting management/propelling organization.

  • We will establish the desired operational framework through repeated discussions with stakeholders and provide ongoing support.

  • To prevent excessive infrastructure development, we will take charge of designing, planning, and operating social experiments and similar initiatives.

  • We will assist in identifying, communicating, and exchanging guidelines to steer the project toward a more desirable public domain.
